  • Toxicity

With years of pollution from dangerous chemicals, petroleum products, pesticides and other contaminants, remediation of these areas has and will go on for many years. These areas may be under brownfield re-development status and set for reuse, Superfund sites or areas where run-off is a concern for the groundwater and drinking water. As these sites move into clean-up stage, there is a need for testing in order to understand the levels of contamination across the site and to be able to use this data to make decisions.

Modern Water immunoassay test kits offer users the ability to make semi-quantitative to quantitative measurements of contaminants down to low level ppb in water and ppm in solids. These low levels mimic the laboratory analysis in many cases offering high sensitivity in a field setting. The kits offer a high level of on-site control during the project. Field test kits are used after an initial site characterisation phase primarily to confirm that contaminated soils have been removed or to determine additional excavation requirements. The test kits offer decision making abilities in helping to determine the point at which final verification sampling can begin. These technologies for environmental remediation prove to be a viable solution when dealing with the removal of contaminants from various medias such as soil, groundwater, sediment, or surface water. These rapid technologies offer on-site testing capabilities saving both time and costs for PCB, PAH, TPH, BTEX, chlorinated pesticides, Pentachlorophenol and explosives.

Pesticide and herbicide screening can be done to determine the effects of run off into groundwater, surface water and drinking water. Low ppb level detection will meet the guidelines set forth by the regulators and allow a high throughput of samples to be screened with only the need to do higher cost, analytical testing on the positive samples. Testing for contaminants such as Atrazine, Triazine, 2,4-D and others.

There is a significant global legacy of trace (heavy) metal contamination at mineral extraction and former industrial sites. These sites can range from simple railway sidings to chemicals production and heavy industrial manufacturing. In order to redevelop these sites there may be a requirement to remove or clean soils to achieve recognised standards. Our trace metal product range includes the portable MicroTrace PDV which can be used for soil and water analysis in the field; and the two on-line, continuous systems: the OVA7100 and the OVA7100 Dual Cell. The online instruments can effectively be used to monitor soil washing process or for groundwater monitoring. Our technology is robust and reliable, can be operated by technicians anywhere in the world and is relatively low maintenance. The portable, laboratory and online systems have a worldwide reputation for quality, reliability and ease of use, enabling customers to monitor pollutant levels, optimise their processes, minimise damage to the environment and protect the health of employees and communities at large.
